Questions

Is the widget free?

Yes. The map, the live positions and the embed code are free, for up to 50 ships per map. You don't need a Shyppy account.

Where do the positions come from?

From AIS, the radio signal every large ship broadcasts. Shyppy collects it from a network of shore stations, so coverage is strongest near coasts and busy shipping lanes, and a ship far out at sea may show its last position near land.

How often does the map update?

Positions refresh every 5 minutes while the page is open. Ships seen in the last 6 hours are shown in colour; older positions in grey.

Will it slow down my website?

No. The map loads in a frame only when a visitor scrolls to it, and it doesn't add cookies or tracking to your site.

How do I find a ship's IMO number?

Search the ship's name in the Shyppy vessel database. The IMO is the 7-digit number on its page. You can also use the 9-digit MMSI.

Want alerts too?

With a Shyppy account you also get storm warnings, sanctions checks, port call history and certificates for every ship in your fleet.
