FedEx runs one of the largest express networks in the world, with its main air hub in Memphis and European operations centred on Paris Charles de Gaulle. Its scans are detailed — you typically see a facility-level event for every handover — which makes FedEx one of the easier carriers to follow closely.
Worth knowing: FedEx logs destination-country customs clearance while the parcel is still at origin. It can look as though your shipment jumped ahead to the destination and came back — it hasn't; that scan is paperwork, not position.
Why track FedEx here instead of on their site
FedEx's own tracking page answers one question about one parcel. If you ship regularly, the problem is different: parcels move across several carriers, and someone has to notice when one of them stops. How long is a FedEx tracking number?
Most commonly 12 digits for Express shipments. FedEx Ground numbers are 15 digits and usually start 96, and SmartPost can run to 20–22 digits. All of them work in the box above.
Why has my FedEx shipment not updated for days?
Long gaps are normal in the middle of an international leg — the parcel is on an aircraft or in a linehaul truck and there is nothing to scan. If nothing has changed for several days after a customs event, that usually means clearance is waiting on paperwork or duty.
What does 'Shipment information sent to FedEx' mean?
The shipper has created a label but FedEx has not yet taken physical possession. Nothing is moving until you see a pickup or origin-facility scan.
